Exploring faith & identity in a Christian context

The Church’s vision for our Youth Ministry is that every young person will know that they are a loved and valued member of God’s family here at MLBC, and will come to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus.

We are currently excited to be redeveloping our ministry for young people aged 11-18 to reflect the church’s commitment to nurturing and discipling young people in today’s uncertain world. To help us achieve this, we plan to call a dedicated Youth Pastor as soon as the current health situation permits.

Youth on Sunday mornings

There are two groups who meet at MLBC on Sunday mornings to learn more about God and the Christian faith, while making friends and having fun.

Resonate is a group for 11s-14s in school years 7-9. Activities include games, drama, art and group discussions to learn more about what the Bible says and what it means to follow Jesus as a teenager today.

DC (Deeper Connections) is a group for 14s-18s in school years 10-13. It is a place to chill out and explore the Bible, discussing some of the big questions of life in a relaxed, fun and friendly environment.

When Do We Meet?

On the 1st Sunday of each month, our young people are learning to take a variety of roles in our All Age services, including playing in the worship band, leading prayers and contributing to shaping the content of the service.

On the remaining Sundays, young people meet separately in their Resonate and DC groups at 10.30, joining the rest of the congregation to take Communion on the 2nd Sunday in the month.

Youth Cell Group

We have recently launched a Youth Cell group which meets at the church at 8pm on a Wednesday evening. This is for the 14s to 18s group and aims to build relationships and provide a safe space to ask questions and explore topics of their choosing.

Wider Community

We work closely with our partner churches – St James, St Albans and St Paul’s – to provide opportunities for all our young people to meet together. This joint working has included running a Youth Alpha course and organising social events and trips to experience worship in other London churches. Future plans include exploring residential trips and attendance at youth conferences.

All who work with young people at MLBC undergo a DBS security check (processed by the Churches Agency for Safeguarding) and our safeguarding framework is underpinned by the Diocese of Southwark.
