MLBC supports Luminary Bakery.
Luninary is a social enterprise designed to offer opportunities for women who have had a social and economic disadvantage to build a future for themselves. It uses baking to help women develop their employability and entrepreneurship. It offers courses, work experience and paid employment within the bakery. By investing in these women and helping them realise their dreams, Luminary aims to break the generational cycles of abuse, prostitution, crime and poverty.

MLBC supports the House of Love and Mercy (HoLM) in Romania. HoLM is a drop-in day centre for anyone in the town of Targu Mures, and the surrounding area, who is caught in the poverty trap. HoLM is committed to expressing God’s love for the poor and oppressed through its various programmes:
- Medical support – A trained nurse, Miha leads the centre’s medical work. She deals with a wide range of medical problems both urgent and long term, as well as helping people understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating.
- Education programme – Education is crucial to people struggling to escape from poverty. The HoLM education programme runs three days a week, with access for up to fifteen students aged 8 – 14. Some of the students have never attended school; others have been excluded for various reasons. Each child is given a snack, which for some is essential as they will not have eaten at home that day. Basic maths and literacy are the main focus alongside health and hygiene education. The centre allows for some limited access to computers for the children to use in their studies.
- Legal support – This program is a mainstay of the services offered at HoLM. Without the proper paperwork, legal documents and ID, people are excluded from all forms of government assistance. No social benefits, no medical care, no fuel allowance, no access to education. Even the simplest of forms can be a barrier to people if they struggle to read and write. Geta, who leads the team at HoLM, is also a lawyer with many years of experience of fighting for the rights of the marginalised, poor and oppressed in Romania. She is dedicated to accessing the resources people are entitled to; giving a voice to those who have none.
MLBC supports HoLM through Impact Romania, which has been involved in various Romanian projects for more than 10 years. The management committee is made up of individuals from Mitcham Lane Baptist Church, Streatham and West Side Church, Wandsworth.
Donation forms and additional information are available at MLBC.
We are also partners with three missionaries through BMS.
